A Video update

Hi everyone!! Well this week we decided to try something a little different, we are adding Video! I added a link to my Youtube account where I uploaded a few video's that we have taken along the way. You'll probably notice that most of them are of the fumes gig... I think Erynn had most of it recorded, cause the 2GB memory card was nearly full after the show. I know those ones might not sound so good cause we were right in front of a person sized speaker, and I don't think the little camera was designed to handle that.

Anywho, we recorded a little 'hello from Oz' for everyone, you just have to hit the play button in the picture to see it. You would be surprised how many takes this took us!! Its hard to have a conversation into a camera and not sound like a wanker, or more of one anyway.

This week we went to the Sydney Aquarium! This is quite the place, it took us hours to get through everything! We saw a platypus to back flips for us, a big salty Croc, a fish that eats baby crocs! colorful jellyfish, little penguins, and seals. They had a touch pool with spiny sea urchins and then we felt a baby shark! Erynn says it felt like sandpaper, I say it was more like felt. I also think she had her eyes closed and felt a rock. After feeling the baby shark we went over to the big ones... or should I say under. The aquarium had an underwater tunnel so we could get nice and close to them. There were also giant stingrays, and Lager head turtles and other little fish with them, but he sharks didn't seem interested in eating them for some reason. Maybe they are vegetarians like the sharks on Nemo? As we finished up we came to the last huge tank. The wall of glass to see into the tank was at least 12 feet tall! It was as if we were right in there with them. So we sat there and watched all the different fish and sharks swim by for about 10mins and took it all in.

Other than that, the only other things we have been up to is Checking out the massive Xmas tree in the Queen Victoria building on our way to Bondi Beach. We actually ran into some Canadian friends that we met in Brisbane on the train there! Twas strange stuff, we were just talking about them on the way to the beach, and two mins later we see them amongst the 5 million other people that live here. As for the job front, I am still continuing the unemployed streak, now at 3months today!! Erynn has some temp work punching peoples names into a computer with Amnesty International. She says it's nothing glorious, but pays quite well! Suits us just fine.

Well that's all for this week. Enjoy the video's, leave comments, and don't let the cold weather get to you. We aren't. :)

Oh My Babylon

No need to worry none / Don't need that Satan speak / Don't mind to babble on this way. Where beer flows from the creek / No politician speak / Pretty lady every day of the week / Don't mind to babble on this way...

Steve... you can babble on all you like!! Fronting the 2 piece band "The Fumes", Steve Merry and drummer Joel Battersby, gave one hell of a show at The Beach Road Hotel last night in Bondi. And we were right there to witness it all!! We arrived somewhat early - probably around 6 pm. Nathan and I were getting antsy because it seemed like we were waiting forever for them to go on stage. All we could do was keep each other company, keep the beers flowing and wait patiently. Finally around 830 they started their set. Wow!! We were absolutely blown away!! I can honestly say out of all the concerts I've ever been to - and I've been to alot of 'big concerts' - that this is definitely one of the best shows I have ever experienced. It was pretty awesome too that I was so close I could have reached out and strummed a note or two on Steve's guitar. This band is definitely on my "recommendation" list... so make sure to check them out. Unfortunately, I don't think you can buy their album in Canada... but we've added a link on our blog where you can listen to a couple of their songs. Awesome stuff. Make sure to check it out. Oh ya - I must brag a little to say that I met them as well... went up and got them to autograph my CD after the show. It was great!!

This past weekend we attended the Traveler's Expo. It was 2 levels of exhibits on travel, accommodation and work. Kind of a 'what to see', 'what to do' and 'where to go' type expo. We got a lot of information and pamphlets regarding all types of things. Nate and I were like 2 kids in a candy store... we were getting free stuff everywhere we turned. Pens, shirts, beer, wine, kiwi Vodka shots... you name it we got it!! It gave us some good travel ideas and we're excited to check out some of the places they mentioned.

Work is looking more positive... for 1/2 of this duo anyway. I've got hired on with Quay Appointments and Acom Corporation. They are offices that find me temp work. I start this week at Amnesty International doing Data Entry. Can't complain... it will be nice to get back doing some type of work. Even better because I'll be making more money than I did back home!! They pay awesome here... I mean just a normal reception job pays around $19-22 /hr. That's tons more than they do back home for just reception. Things are a bit pricier here so perhaps it all evens out in the end... I can't say for sure. As for Nathan... he's still searching. It's not as easy as we thought to find employment here (unless you want to serve fast food). So I'm not sure what we're doing wrong or if we're even doing anything wrong. Hopefully luck comes on our side though and we're both working at some stellar jobs in no time.

Well I think that's it from over here. The weather has been great!! It was +30 both Saturday and Sunday this past weekend. The rest of the week is looking around mid to high 20's. A lot warmer than I hear it is back home. Glad I'm not there to make snow angels or anything.

Miss you all - E&N

p/s Carrie & Mom - I found my Bojenmi tea here!! Yay!! You two know what that does to me... haha - good times now!!

What the heck was that???

What the heck was that meat?? What the heck just scurried across the floor?? What the heck is biting us?? What the heck is with the rain?? All the answers you're looking just sentenes away...

Ok ok but first… I know I have some crazy hair in the last picture but for all of you who don’t read the ‘comments’ section I feel the need to explain. Especially since my Mom & Dad told me they felt sorry that I had to deal with the ‘humidity’ and having curly hair. Ha-ha – I was shocked to think my parents thought that was just my new ‘natural’ look. Come on – I’m sure if that was the case I’d be single by now!! It was just a ‘comb out’. It doesn’t happen often… but sometimes I get the urge to comb out my curly hair, give it a couple air fluffs and act like I’m the sexiest thing around!! ;) It was Halloween after all.

So 4 days ago we moved into our new place. We’re residents of Lane Cove… a suburb of Sydney. It’s weird how at home (in Canada) if somebody asks where you’re from you say Saskatoon and not the suburb you live in. Here you say the suburb and not the city. Goes to show just how much smaller we are compared to this city. Regardless of all that… the new pad is great!! We’re living with the nicest people you could possibly ask to live with. Steve the dad, Toni the mom, Charlie the daughter and Jonnie the beagle. Great people… we’re lucky to have found this place. We have the master bedroom of the house… which means we have our own bathroom/shower right off the room. It’s nice not having to share with a building full of other people. We’re paying for half the groceries which is great because both Steve & Toni are great cooks!! We’re getting some pretty tasty meals out of this. A lot better than the diet of noodles, pizza, wafers & Tim Tams we’ve been living on so far. Our waistlines are a perfect example of what our diets have been like. Cheap eats aren’t very good for a person. It’s a common occurrence for travelers though… we’ve heard similar stories from everybody we’ve met.

So why can’t our luck with the accommodation move over into the job scene?? I really don’t know. Hopefully we hear something soon… Nathan and I are both getting antsy to start making some cash. A person really doesn’t realize just how much they spend until they only see their account decreasing. It’s not fun… but it’s reality – and let me tell you… Australia isn’t cheap!! But it sure is a blast…

I can do without the rain though. Since we’ve been back in Sydney we haven’t seen much sun. The past 4 days have been miserable. I mean it’s quite cold here at the moment… no – not as cold as it is back home. I’ll stop complaining about it because I can already hear you all telling me to stop my whining because we’re not in negative degrees like you all are. But please believe me that it is quite chilly… a damp coldness on top of it. That’s never fun. We’re just hoping to see some rays of sunshine soon.

For all of you major animal lovers tuning in to our blog I will warn you that you may want to skip this paragraph. You might not enjoy what I have to say. Nathan and I both have tried a “Mystery Meat” (as Steve nicely put it). We were only told that we had to try it and see what it was like. So we did. It was a nice juicy steak. Cooked to perfection and tasting remarkable!! What was it you ask?? You probably guessed it since we are in Australia. Kangaroo. I don’t think I’d order it from a restaurant if it was an option (I’d rather stick to what’s familiar)… but I’m glad to say I tried it. Oh ya – Kathy… if you’re reading this… no – I’m not going to eat a baby Koala like you mentioned in your email!! My sister is one of those people who probably would have skipped this paragraph. I didn’t give her warning though like I did for all of you.

Other than all that Nathan and I are just plain itchy. Yes I typed that correctly – itchy. We have numerous bites on our arms, legs, feet, stomachs and backs. Now - there are flies here… but not the kind that bite. There are mozzies (mosquitoes for you all back home) but there aren’t any right now. So what the heck is biting us?? Ugh… it turns my stomach to even think about it but we’re sure it’s from bed bugs. Hostels aren’t the cleanest of places and who knows how many people slept in those beds before us. The laundry is ‘washed’… but is it really?? Makes you wonder about some of the places. Anyway – we started noticing bites when we were staying at “The Lamrock Lodge” & “Beached @ Bondi”. So for all of you people reading this and are perhaps traveling through Bondi Beach or even thinking of it – don’t stay at the 2 hostels I just mentioned. We think there are nasties in the beds!! Anyway – we really are suffering. They are quite large welts and super itchy!! I have to put band-aids on mine because I end up scratching them at night in my sleep ‘til I bleed. Poor us!! I’m just hoping they heal up now that we’re in a clean environment.

Things like that are quite the wakeup call from being back in the comfort of our homes. I mean all of you probably aren’t cooking supper with a giant cockroach bigger than the size of an average person’s thumb, crawling across your foot. Or going for a leisurely walk during the evening but dodging those things as they scurry all around on the ground. They fly too I hear… so if you guys hear someone screaming bloody murder it’s me from way over here… and one would have just landed on me.

These are some of the non-appealing things we’ve seen. They don’t even amount to the moments that have taken our breath away though. So what the heck are you all waiting for?? Get your butts in gear and get down here!! We’re waiting for you all…

E&N

p.s. We're not always putting all of our pictures in a specific new folder. So make sure to check out the "All photos" album once in awhile. You may see some new ones in there!!
